Getting Your Train On

On the fourth Sunday of the month, you will find a busy hive of activity hidden in the bushes opposite Stuart Park in Wollongong with miniature trains and tiny stations, cute signal boxes and mini signs to go with them. On a selection of tracks loop excited kids, over-excited parents and true train aficionados.  The Illawarra Live Steamers is a not for profit organisation that exists solely for the love of trains.

Set within a beautiful forest and at only $2 a ride, you can indulge your fantasies of riding The Ghan while the kids can hop aboard Woody - a timber train featuring the characters of Toy Story.

With surrounding parkland, undercover tables, BBQ, toilet facilities, canteen and coffee you can make a day of it - and there is just something very relaxing about the motion of trains and sound of tooting. One word of warning - do not feed the seagulls or you will spend the day ambushed and protecting your food.
