The original Headlands Hotel opened in 1920 was affectionately known as Headies and was the place to be seen on the coast. Most locals knew each other and it served as a social hub in its heyday. Headies sadly fell into disrepair and its ghostly form haunted the headland for decades. However, a new Headlands Hotel has taken its place, once again offering accommodation, dining and drinks with hands down the best view on the coast. Uninterrupted views both to the North and South leads down to a quiet protected beach or join the coastal bike/walking track that goes all the way to Wollongong.

Austinmer has gained iconic status as one of the coasts most charming villages. With a beach that draws crowds Sydney wide and another secret locals beach is known as LittleAusti. Its golden sands and blue waves are a place you could easily spend the whole day. Be sure to wander down to Moore Street which is lined with majestic Brush Box trees and is a rare combination of charming cottages, cafes, boutiques and even features a Yoga studio.  Check out the EmeraldAqua Centre of Discovery for more information about Wollongong and the Illawarra Coast.
