About Thirroul
Retail, salt water and caffeine therapy
Frequented by painters, poets and writers Thirroul is famous for inspiring D H Lawrence’s Kangaroo which was written during his stay in the town. It is also infamous for being the place Brett Whitely met his end. Whitely apparently came to Thirroul in search of a landscape on edge delicately held between the mountains and the sea.
Nowadays Thirroul village is the hub of the northern suburbs, buzzing with activity you will find a plethora of cafes, restaurants, boutiques and homewares to get your fill of retail therapy. If salt water cures are more your thing you can dip in the cool waves of Thirroul beach or opt for laps of the Olympic sized ocean pool.
The kids are very well looked after with one of the best playgrounds on the coast complete with flying fox, scooter track and a ropes mountain.
Fine dining is well catered for with the iconic Samuels and The Postmaster’s Quarter (located within the original post office) while coffee flows from every street corner. All your donut needs are covered by el Jacksons café. For wholesome delicious fare Honest Dons on McCauley Street is a must visit. Beans Talk is a great place to gather for bigger groups and offers delicious sandwiches.
