Towradgi is a hidden gem just 5km from Wollongong it is a quiet seaside town with beautiful views of the coast to the north and across Wollongong to the south. It is an outdoor recreation hub with parklands complete with picnic areas and BBQ’s. A children’s playground, a large ocean pool adjoined by a smaller kid’s pool and long stretches of beach on both side of the point.  It is part of the coastal path that stretches all the way from Coalcliff to Wollongong.  However, if you like your recreation a little slower head to the bowling club across the road for fantastic food, cold drinks and the gentle pace of lawn bowls.
Part of Australian naval history south of the point on the beach is where George Bass and Matthew Flinders attempted to land. Their vessel the Tom Thumb was filled with water but they managed to bale it out and continue having collected water from nearby Towradgi Creek.  It is also the location of the infamous sinking of the Queen of Nations wrecked in the 1880s by a drunk captain who was atypically transporting alcohol.
