Summer seems to take so long to arrive and yet when it does between Christmas, the end of the school year and finishing up work and personal projects Summer can slide away before we know it. So follow our tips to make the most of the sunshine and longer days.
PLAN A WEEKEND AWAY
The water starts warming up on the south coast in November and stays warm until April so take a trip early or just before summer fades. Soak up some sun, just chill out and spend some quality time with your family. We recommend Serenity (it true to its name).
TAKE A ROAD TRIP
Don't have a whole weekend, then simply wake at the crack of dawn pack the car with snacks, music and friends and take a drive. Stop along the way for refreshments, retail therapy and cool down swims. Follow the coast road through the Royal National park all the way to Gerroa for a spectacular drive that is only 2 hours south of Sydney.
PACK A PICNIC
There is something about eating outside on a blanket under trees that just smells and feels like summer. Go gourmet with a variety of cheeses, deli meats, fancy cordials and some Artison bread. Enlist the butchers help with sausages and beyond or check out Pinterest for some serious inspiration.
VISIT A WATER PARK
Jamberoo Action Park is open from September to April so there is plenty of time to get soaked, slide, and slosh with family and friends. Don't forget to take lots of awkward Instagram pics.
EAT ICE CREAM
A proper ice cream in a cone enjoyed on the beach or with your toes in the grass can encapsulate summer in one blissful taste. Try your ice cream with a view at the Gelato Emporium at Bulli Tops.
TAKE A LONG LEISURELY BIKE RIDE
With kilometres of scenic track to choose from the south coast is a fantastic place to get on your bike and explore. You can hire bikes and check out some great route suggestions at South Coast Bike Hire.
